The long, long wait for a ruling in the EPA fluoridation trial finally ended last week. Then came the wonderful headlines:

Reuters headline on EPA fluoridation lawsuit

“As the Court wrote,” noted lead plaintiff Food & Water Watch,

we have proven “that water fluoridation at the level of 0.7 mg/L — the prescribed optimal level of fluoridation in the United States — presents an ‘unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment, without consideration of costs or other non-risk factors.’” As a result, the EPA can no longer ignore the risk and must strengthen its regulations.

“Today’s ruling represents an important acknowledgement of a large and growing body of science indicating serious human health risks associated with fluoridated drinking water,” said Food & Water Watch executive director Wenonah Hauter in a news release.

This court looked at the science and acted accordingly. Now the EPA must respond by implementing new regulations that adequately protect all Americans – especially our most vulnerable infants and children – from this known health threat.

Dr. Griffin Cole , past president of the IAOMT (a co-plaintiff in the case), said in his organization’s own release,

This unprecedented ruling is a wake-up call for the EPA, CDC and other government agencies who have, for far too long, promoted fluoridation without adequately considering its harmful effects on developing brains. It is unconscionable that millions of pregnant women and children continue to be exposed to fluoride levels that an overwhelming number of scientific studies show are harmful.

“It’s time for the EPA, CDC and other health authorities to stop ignoring the science and start protecting the health of future generations,” added current IAOMT President Yuko Torigoe, DMD. “We need transparent regulations based on the latest research, not outdated practices that put our children at risk.”

Now we’ll see how the EPA responds…
